Being a native of the Balia district of Uttar Pradesh, Garima Singh wanted to be a doctor but it was her father who causes her to opt for civil services. She completed her master’s in arts in history from St. Stephen’s college in Delhi and later was married to an engineer who is a graduate from IIT Kharagpur.
Garima Singh qualified the civil services examination in 2012 in her very first attempt, she was working as an IPS officer till 2015. During that time period, she served Lucknow for 2 years as a trainee ASP. After Lucknow, she was posted to Jhansi as SP but before coming to Jhansi she already made waves into her prescribed share of work at Lucknow. While in Lucknow, she was in a team investigating the infamous Mohanlal ganj rape case and was also in a role in setting up the women’s helpline number 1090.
While being on the duty she started her preparations for UPSC examinations in her spare time which even included 1 hour of her lunchtime and then the time came when all her efforts came out with flying colors. She attained 55th rank in the 2015 civil services examinations to qualify for Indian Administrative Services(IAS) and got her first posting in the Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand as an Assistant Collector. She served the city with her dignity and honesty. Besides serving the city, she adopted an Anganbadi of Hazaribagh district and converted it into a model playschool within 2 months and she totally invested her personal saving over this. She was the District social welfare officer for that period of time. This work shows her immense affection for everyone around her.
But there were a lot greater achievements waiting for her in the journey of her life so the story did not end here and now she is posted as SDO of Ranchi on 29th August 2018. Garima Singh is an officer categorized by care and perseverance in carrying out tasks.
