Mr. Sukhdev Singh – Current Chief Secretary of Jharkhand

Mr. Sukhdev Singh, who is an IAS from the 1987 batch was born in Haryana. He is currently serving as the Chief Secretary of Jharkhand. He took over the position after the retirement of Mr. D.K Tiwary on 31st March 2020.

He is a mechanical engineer by education and has been a part of Government training programs on Personal administration, community mobilization, and Participatory management techniques.

He is the 23rd Chief Secretary of Jharkhand. He was handling the charges as an Additional Chief Secretary of the home prison and disaster management department and was also in the role of Development Commissioner before taking over the position of the Chief Secretary.

He served as the SDO from 1989-1991 and then as the DDC from 1991-1993. His first posting as the DC was in Deoghar, Jharkhand, and he also served at Bokaro, Giridih, and Ranchi as the District Commissioner.
One of the amazing facts is that when Jharkhand was formed, he was the District Commissioner of Ranchi for the next 11 months.

Mr. Sukhdev Singh has been Principal Secretary to CM in 2006, 2009, and 2013. He has handled numerous important portfolios as Additional secretary- GAD, Principal Secretary- National savings department, Additional Secretary- Institutional Finance and program Implementation department, Joint Secretary- Culture, sports, and youth affair department, Health and medical department, Water resources department, and Joint Secretary- Forest and environment.
