It is said that: “Great work comes from the great minds”. But that greatness comes with the honesty and dedication towards your work. The best example we can cite from this is through the story of Chhavi Ranjan (District commissioner of Ranchi).

Meet the newly appointed DC of Ranchi – Chhavi Ranjan.

Hailing from the state of Jharkhand, he completed his basic education from Jamshedpur. It can be said that Jharkhand is both his birth land and work land. In the year 1999, Chhavi completed his matriculation from St. Mary’s School, Bistupur. Then he pursued his intermediate from Chinmaya School, Telco. Also known as Vidya Bharati Chinmaya Vidyalaya, the school was established under the patronage of TATA MOTORS. Further, he went to Delhi for his higher education. There he pursued his B.sc and M.sc Degree from one of the renowned colleges of Delhi University, St. Stephens.

From here, he decided on to serve the society and nation and thus he prepared for Civil Services Examination. As a result of his hard work and dedication, he secured All India Rank 125 in UPSC, in the year 2010. He joined Indian Administrative Services in the 2011 batch as an officer. Luckily, he got an opportunity to serve in his home state. So, he was the IAS officer of Jharkhand cadre. He got his first posting in Chakradharpur, a city in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand as SDO. Further, he took charge as 22nd DDC of Lohardaga from Jagjeet Singh in the year 2014. From Lohardaga, he was then shifted and posted as DC at Koderma District of Jharkhand. He took charge as DC of Koderma in February 2015. During his tenure in Koderma, he went into an argument with local politicians and they put an allegation on him stating that he was responsible for the cutting down of trees that were under government control. Though his name was not included in the original FIR, it surfaced in the course of the investigation. As a result, he was again transferred by the government. This time he was appointed as Municipal Commissioner in Dhanbad. Back to back, he was getting transferred and was then posted as Director, Social Welfare Department of Jharkhand.

In June 2017, he served as District Commissioner of Saraikela-Kharsawan. During this tenure in Saraikela, he experienced a proud moment of his life. He was invited as the Chief Guest in the school from where he studied. He inaugurated the newly constructed infrastructure. He addressed the students by making them understand the importance of goals in life. He asked the students to study with an aim. With a positive thought and a clear goal, you can undoubtedly go on reaching the heights of success. He also served as Director, Agriculture Department, Jharkhand in 2019.

Finally, he replaced Rai Mahimapat Ray on 15th July 2020 and took charge as the Deputy Collector of Ranchi. The Jharkhand government has a strategy of appointing educated officers in the state giving concern to the overall development of the state. Chhavi Ranjan’s life story says that you really need to have a goal in life. His parents wanted him to study engineering but his hard work and aim to achieve compelled him to serve as a dedicated officer of his home state for which everyone is proud. On joining his duty, he said, “We are committed to fighting the pandemic as a team. The situation in the state capital is really tough as it is witnessing a spike in the number of cases. But my focus will be to lower down the curve. I will execute the things properly as my duty.”
